Robert Becker is the Chief Investment Strategist and Head of Real Assets at Versus Capital, overseeing investment strategy, asset allocation, and portfolio management for real assets. He has 29 years of experience in real asset investing.
Before joining Versus Capital, Mr. Becker spent more than 18 years at Cohen & Steers, where he played a pivotal role in shaping global listed infrastructure investing. He established one of the first global infrastructure mutual funds, co-founded and co-led a premier global listed infrastructure strategy, and managed $9 billion in infrastructure investments. His portfolio management experience includes the Global Infrastructure Fund, Infrastructure Fund, REIT & Utility Income Fund, MLP Income and Energy Opportunity Fund, and the Real Assets Fund.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Becker was a portfolio manager for the Franklin Utilities Fund at Franklin Templeton Investments, where he helped lead the fund to become the top-performing fund in the Lipper utility category for the three years ended November 2003. He also served as director of investor relations at Eversource Energy, an S&P 500 electric, gas, and water utility and renewable energy developer.
Previously, he worked at Salomon Smith Barney as an equity research associate, where his team earned the #1 ranking for independent power producer equity research in the 1998-1999 Greenwich Survey and the #1 ranking for stock picking in electric utilities in the 1998 Wall Street Journal All-Star Analysts Survey. Mr. Becker began his investment career at Scudder, Stevens & Clark as an equity research assistant, covering global utilities and transportation.
Mr. Becker holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Economy of Industrial Societies from the University of California, Berkeley.
